One of the few connections you will need to make on your eSYSTEM DIY Installation Kit is between your system and battery. It is important that your battery negative is connected to the "BATTERY" side of your battery monitor shunt and that it is the only cable on this connection point. Failure to do this will prevent your battery monitor from accurately reading the flow of current through your system and cause your state of charge reading to be incorrect. An example of the proper connection points for an eSYS-D can be seen below. The connection points are also shown in the system wiring diagrams, which can be found here (under the downloads tab).
Your battery cables will also need to be large enough to accommodate the heaviest loads on your system. Typically this means you will need a minimum of 70mm2 cable, but the exact size will depend on a variety of different factors.
