The RV Installation Kit is a great solution for all kinds off grid applications due to its compact size and versatility. The following guide will walk you through the RV series of boards to find the solution that best suits your needs.
What size AC charger do I need?
All RV Installation Kits come equipped with two chargers, a DC2DC charger for use with a vehicle start battery or solar panels, and with an ePOWER AC charger for 230V mains power. The RV80 series of systems uses a 40A AC charger, while the RV60 uses a 20A AC charger. As a general rule, it is recommended that the maximum charge current of your AC charger be at least 10% of your battery capacity. For example, the 20A AC charger on an RV60 would be sufficient for a 200Ah battery. For more information on choosing the right AC charger, click here.
Do I need a Battery Monitor?
The 01, 02, and 03 models of the RV60 and RV80 Installation Kits come equipped with an ePRO Plus Battery Monitor, which allows you to easily monitor the flow of current in and out of your system and view your batteries state of charge. This is especially important if you are using lithium batteries, which cannot rely on voltage to determine state of charge. If you have a battery with built in monitoring, such as an ENERDRIVE | DOMETIC B-TEC lithium battery, you do not necessarily need the ePRO Plus, although it can prove extremely useful in the event that you are unable to connect to your battery via Bluetooth.
Do I want additional fusing or a low battery cutout installed?
In addition to the battery monitor, the RV60-02 and RV80-02 feature an 8-circuit blade fuse block installed on the board. For users looking for additional protection, the RV60-03 and RV80-03 come equipped with a low battery cutout (LBC) that has been connected to the alarm relay of the ePRO Plus. The LBC is designed to cut loads on its output side in the event of a low voltage or low state of charge (SOC) alarm from the ePRO Plus. If you have purchased your RV60-03 or RV80-03 with an ENERDRIVE | DOMETIC B-TEC or eLITE lithium battery, then the low state of charge disconnect will be pre-programmed by the Enerdrive production team. If you plan on using your RV Installation Kit with any other type of battery, instructions on how to setup the low SOC alarm can be found here.
