Cell balancing is designed to equalise the charge on every cell in a battery pack and prevent individual cells from becoming over stressed. This process helps to improve your battery's performance and can prolong its lifespan. Enerdrive Pro Series lithium batteries use an Active Balancing System (ABS) to transfer energy from cells with higher voltage density to lower cells in the pack. This method of balancing utilises energy within the battery pack to balance the cells, as opposed to passive balancing systems, which waste energy in the battery pack by bleeding excess energy as heat.
In addition to balancing the cells in the battery pack, the ABS also monitors individual cell voltages and can trigger high and low voltage alarms if necessary. is capable of working with the rest of the Battery Management System (BMS) to switch charging sources and loads on/off as necessary. In the event of a high cell alarm, the BMS will disconnect charge sources but allow loads to continue running. This helps the cell(s) to come down to an acceptable level more quickly. The opposite is done in the event of a low voltage alarm; the BMS cuts loads but leaves charging sources on in order to help bring the low cell(s) back into in acceptable range.
